WHY FILM IN LONDON?

Sue Hayes
Film London
Film London is the capital’s film and media agency. Film London sustains, promotes and develops London as a major international film-making and film cultural capital. This includes all the screen industries based in London – film, television, video, commercials and new interactive media.

Film London is funded by the UK Film Council and the London Development Agency. Film London also receives significant support from Arts Council England London, the European Regional Development Fund, the Mayor of London and Skillset.

Location services and support for film-makers
Film London aims to make the capital one of the best places in the world in which to film. We provide comprehensive information on locations and the services available in London, run a locations library, and provide practical advice and on the ground support to all film-makers working in the city. Film London also works with all the boroughs, key agencies and landmarks to facilitate the best possible relationship with the production sector.

Production Schemes
Film London invests in film-making talent through a range of production schemes. These provide established and up-and-coming film-makers with not only an opportunity to develop their skills on a short film but also a vital entry point into the industry. We have developed a low budget feature film fund called Microwave which was launched in 2006.

Skills & Business Development
Film London champions the development of the film and media sector, supplying funding and stimulating the creation of new facilities and activities. We work closely with the major studios, lobby for the industry on strategic issues, and promote new London films through showcasing events. We also actively support training, skills and educational provision throughout London.

Exhibition & Education
We work with all bodies associated with film in London to help develop audiences and access provision. Film London supports a variety of projects across the city that will bring new audiences to film, educate current audiences and increase the range of cinema available to London audiences.

Marketing & Tourism
Film London is working with the industry, and in partnership with Visit London, to co-ordinate national and international tourism marketing initiatives that showcase and celebrate the breadth of the capital’s film and media work.

International
Film London works towards raising the profile of the British film industry. Events take place in the UK and overseas to achieve this aim.
