Scotland’s production level averages between 15 to 20 feature films shot or partly shot here every year. Recent filming includes David Mackenzie’s new feature, The Last Word, starring Ewan McGregor and Eva Green, Kevin Macdonald’s Eagle of the Ninth, Neil Marshall’s Centurion, and Peter Mullan’s Neds.

Around 150 television projects, from long-running series to one-off programmes are filmed in Scotland each year. Recent productions include Kudos’ new drama series Lip Service for BBC3; one-off drama One Night in Emergency, starring Kevin McKidd, comedy series Gary: Tank Commander and Limmy’s Show; Shed’s Garrow’s Law for BBC1, Game of Thrones for HBO and children’s television programmes Dani’s House.

So what do we have to offer?

Scotland boasts an extremely versatile and experienced crewbase, and a growing number of world class post-production facilities including Arc, M8 Media, Artem special effects house, Serious and Savalas. And there’s a vibrant production sector with over 100 independent production companies making film, television and digital media, alongside three broadcasters: BBC Scotland, stv and BBC Alba, the Gaelic language digital television channel. On top of this we have a host of top flight talent from the worlds of writing, directing, design and acting.

As well as the personnel and facilities, there’s all the space! Scotland makes up 37% of the UK landmass, but has a population of only 5 million. There’s an incredible choice on offer here ranging from open spaces, forests, moorland, lochs, mountains, farmed landscapes and 6,000 miles of coastline to choose from, not to mention our contemporary cityscapes, ancient monuments and castles of all shapes, ages and sizes. Whatever your production needs, there’s a location to suit. Scotland offers space, quiet and the best light quality in the UK.

To help you find the best location, we have a nationwide network of extremely helpful and knowledgeable location offices, which can offer help with finding locations, key local contacts, local crew, accommodation and other services.

Whatever your production needs, you can make it in Scotland.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
